About The Farm

This week’s column in the Bethwood Patch, The Housewives of Bethany vs. the Kardashians – not even a fair fight, really . . .

Locket’s Meadow in Bethany, CT, is a sanctuary for at-risk farm animals. For years our focus was rescuing horses from the PMU (Pregnant Mare Urine) industry, but as times have changed, we have diversified into all kinds of horse rescue as well as expanded our farm animal rescue; most of our farm pets were saved from slaughter.

Rescued and rehabbed horses need jobs, and ours go to work as lesson ponies and therapeutic riding horses in our programs. Our other animals, including pigs, sheep, goats, chickens, ducks, burros and steers, also do therapeutic work as well as entertain visitors.

Our animals’ most notable trait? Every one of them is unusually friendly, which we think speaks to how grateful they are to be in a safe place.
